How to Stay Motivated
We are already in February, and by now, the motivation around New Years Resolutions may be fading. How do you keep up the momentum ALL YEAR? How do those fitness influencers on Instagram have motivation everyday to workout?
The secret is...that there is no secret to motivation. We know, how anti-climatic.
But there is something else that can keep you going no matter what. And that secret is within YOU. What drives people to accomplish goals is unique to them. You have to dig deep and figure out your WHY.
Let's say your goal is to get in the best shape of your life. Ok, the first step to that goal is to ask yourself WHY.
If your answer isn't meaningful enough (ie. "I just want abs"), you will fail. Why?
Because on the days you don't feel like going to the gym or cooking, you're going to need a reason to do.it.anyway. "I want abs" isn't good enough. If it were, everyone would be shredded.
So here are a few questions to ask yourself:
- Why do I really want to accomplish [insert goal]
- Why is this important for me to accomplish?
- Why now?
A great answer would be: "I want to get in the best shape of my life this year because I want to be more confident. I need confidence to get that promotion at work. Plus, I want to be able to keep up with my kids and be healthy as a good example for them."
On the days you feel like skipping your workout, think about that promotion and your kids to get you going. The more you overcome the hard days, the more confidence and drive you will build. You'll build momentum, which leads to consistency, and from that you form a HABIT.
Some days, you will be motivated. And on the days you're not, your habits (and your WHY) will pick up the slack. This is the true secret.
